I enjoyed contributing to Edward Burton's theme on music.
Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole is a Hawaiian Icon. He was always popular in Hawaii but only gained National attention with his rendition of "Over the Rainbow". Go to
my blog if you'd like to listen to a more traditional Hawaiian song. This is watercolor.
What a fabulous post his voice is so beautiful, so is your watercolor of him. It's too bad we can't put the video in the moleskins.
ReplyDeleteI love this, Sheila! What a wonderful portrait of Israel - he had such a beautiful voice. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteSheila,
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful painting.
And what a voice.
Thanks for sharing.
Such a great idea and a wonderful portrait, Sheila! Nice job with the watercolor too. I so love his voice and that song - just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSheila , you really captured the warmth and sensitivity of this giant of a man...what a beautiful voice he has.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this Sheila. Takes me back to my roots; missing it very, very much. Moreso, because there is so much snow out today. Iz was certainly one in a million.
ReplyDeleteApparently I live under a rock and don't get out much, I've not heard of this singer before today. I know I've heard this rendition of Over the Rainbow, but had not heard of the performer, thank you for sharing. Your watercolor is wonderful, I love that you captured that beautiful smile. Take care, Sheila.
ReplyDeleteGreat video, and inspired choice for Ed's journal, Sheila. I love the freshness of your watercolor, and the happiness you've captured.
ReplyDeletegreat video
ReplyDeleteThis is great blog. If you enjoy sartorialist you will enjoy this blog too.

Great choice Sheila. I love his music. One of my favorites is his "White Sandy Beach of Hawaii". Really great watercolor too!
ReplyDeleteTHE MUSICIAN IS ALIVE!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tribute, Sheila! I just love that you thought of it and you did such a wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteThanks for making me aware of this man, Sheila, and of what he means to Hawaiians. I hope his example will speak to many people even now that his body has left this world. Your painting is beautiful and honors his memory!
ReplyDeleteA sroke of genius to put Ole IZ up for Edward's music theme. And you did a perfect job of capturing IZ in his bubbly persona. He indeed has a beautiful voice and "Over the Rainbow" is so very enjoyable. I'm a little perplexed, though, how you managed to fit him into that little sketchbook...I've heard they issue tsunami warnings when he goes to the beach. ;-)
