"Young Lady..." Dana Cooper

10" X 8" oil on gessoed paper

This is my submission for Dean Haven's "Flying Moleskin" book. I know Dean to be a generous blogger friend and a talented artist who paints a variety of subjects.

My initial thought was to do a portrait of Dean until I came across a photo I had taken at MOMA in NY of a young woman taking a photo of a black and white portrait by Chuck Close. Ah, ha...the planet and stars aligned and she is now taking a photo of Dean! He seems to be saying, "young lady, why are you taking my photo?"...hope you like it Dean!

  4. Outstanding, Dana! I agree with Vern, love the contrast of colors and just love the placement of the girl with Dean. Funny how those profile pictures are coming in handy for so many of us.

  5. Thanks Edward and Irit, you may see more of this theme somewhere down the road.

Thanks Vern, I think the contrast of color was what attracted me to the scene in the first place.

Angela, you are right, your profile pic may just show up in yours!

  8. THIS is what this group is all about -- really COOL paintings like THIS one, surprising and delighting us all. I love it that you took a risk and that I wouldn't have known this was yours. I just love it and it has a very modern feel about it. The brushwork is fantastic and what an unexpected palette. A++++++++!!!

  9. My portrait does have that questioning/dubious look. But in real life, I'm sitting here grinning from ear to ear!

This is one of the most creative things I have seen...and then, to actually have my features be included into the painting is just mind boggling!! And then to top it all off, it's in MY book!

Very, very well painted. I shall treasure it. Thanks, Dana.
