FOLLOW THE LEADER
Irit, this is my contribution for your moleskine and your topic, "something about your local area". I had several ideas for your book, and why I went with these rocks, I do not know! Without a doubt, this is my first and last attempt at painting rocks, whew!
Two times a year there is an art show held at Cottonwood Park, it is very well attended by families and their pets. Artists have water bowls out for pets and there is a tented area for the children to be creative and experience all types of art. Alongside the art, is a large creek where you can always find children climbing on the rocks and following the multiple paths the rocks create. I always look forward to attending the shows here, there's a large variety of art, lots of dogs to photograph, and great people watching.

Magnificent painting, Angela! Love the children climbing on the rocks and the reflections in the water. (P.S. - Hope you had a wonderful birthday!)
ReplyDeleteBefore I knew that it is for me, I was thinking that this is something that I would love to have.
ReplyDeleteI swear to all of you. This is what I was thinking.
Now that I know that this is for me, I am so very happy.
To climb for me is growing, being smarter, acceptance, balance, freedom etc. What a great gift you gave me.
And a late whishes for your B.Day.
I love how you portrayed the confidence of the leader, the second one getting there and the last one been more tentative and ensure but still going for it.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece Angela.
Oh rocks!!! I would agree that they are hard to paint but I think you handled them and the children beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful, Angela. I love the spirit of adventure in the kids and the beautiful reflections.
ReplyDeleteJust love the positive and negative space that forms some sort of rhythm through this piece. Nice handling of the medium too!
ReplyDeleteI really dig this. Makes me think of when I was a child I would follow my two older brothers on an adventure...I can almost smell the moss that grows on the rocks or the mud that got caked to our shoes. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love this! It reminds me of childhood, too, and playing in the creek by our house. Wet sneakers, and slipping on rocks on a hot day. What could be better! Wonderful painting, Angela. Am in awe of the way you indicated the rocks and movement. Great work!
ReplyDeleteThe kids are just perfectly posed in their little adventure. The reflections are great. And the stones are just fine. This painting really rocks, Angela!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on an intimidating subject Angela. The kids look like they're having fun, and that's what this painting is...fun!
ReplyDeleteSo much life in this work.
ReplyDeleteJumping stones in a creek used to be one of my favorite pastimes way back when. This painting makes me recall the joy and enthusiasm of those days. Great job Angela!
ReplyDeleteThank you very kindly. I have a ton of reference shots and would like to try a few more of these, but most definitely different crops with less rocks! Irit, so glad you liked this little part of NE Texas.
ReplyDeleteI had to look at this one about 3 times to take it all in! Rocks are one of my many no-no's, too, and I thought - great rocks! Then, upon reading you were uncomfortable with the rocks, I thought they perfectly match the abstractness of the water - what could you have possibly done differently... nothing! (in my humble opinion)
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a creek in Richardson near our house where I used to go crawdad fishing when I was little. You really captured the sunny, carefree feeling of the kids playing on the rocks. Great vibe to this one, Angela!
