This is my submission for Dean Haven's "Flying Moleskin" book. I know Dean to be a generous blogger friend and a talented artist who paints a variety of subjects.
My initial thought was to do a portrait of Dean until I came across a photo I had taken at MOMA in NY of a young woman taking a photo of a black and white portrait by Chuck Close. Ah, ha...the planet and stars aligned and she is now taking a photo of Dean! He seems to be saying, "young lady, why are you taking my photo?"...hope you like it Dean!
This is just BRILLIANT!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Adebanji and Lokelani. I always have fun with my art but this was REALLY fun!!
ReplyDeleteThis is WONDERFUL, Dana! I love it---what a great idea!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant it is!!!!
ReplyDeleteDana, this is an incredible idea, and you executed it beautifully. I love the bold red against the black and white portrait of Dean.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding, Dana! I agree with Vern, love the contrast of colors and just love the placement of the girl with Dean. Funny how those profile pictures are coming in handy for so many of us.
ReplyDeleteThanks Edward and Irit, you may see more of this theme somewhere down the road.
ReplyDeleteThanks Vern, I think the contrast of color was what attracted me to the scene in the first place.
Angela, you are right, your profile pic may just show up in yours!
WOW...... what a knock out picture and idea for Dean.
ReplyDeleteThis is really outstanding. So well done Dana.
Dana. this is such a nifty idea!! You did a super job on the artwork, but the color and contrast and overall impact just really sets this apart. Marvelous.
ReplyDeleteTHIS is what this group is all about -- really COOL paintings like THIS one, surprising and delighting us all. I love it that you took a risk and that I wouldn't have known this was yours. I just love it and it has a very modern feel about it. The brushwork is fantastic and what an unexpected palette. A++++++++!!!
ReplyDeleteMy portrait does have that questioning/dubious look. But in real life, I'm sitting here grinning from ear to ear!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most creative things I have seen...and then, to actually have my features be included into the painting is just mind boggling!! And then to top it all off, it's in MY book!
Very, very well painted. I shall treasure it. Thanks, Dana.
You all are so generous with your comments, thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteDean, I could not be more delighted that you like the painting, it was really the most fun I have had with a painting in awhile!
Wow, Dana!! You get the prize for creativity on this one. Really superb.
ReplyDeleteThe color contrast is stunning! And before I read a word, I said "That's Dean!" Wonderful, Dana!
ReplyDeleteThanks Liz...and Beckie, I'm so excited that you recognized it as Dean, thank you!
