A Busy Rest

I'm finally posting this painting which I finished last night for Camille's book. Her theme was peace, but she'd indicated earlier that she'd like something from the photos I took in Germany last May. So what describes peace more than being able to sit safely on a crowded street, and text whatever you want, to whoever you want. Some of the best subject matter is derived from casual photos taken randomly under great lighting conditions.

  4. This is wonderful, Vern. Great composition - the figure in the foreground, the shadows and the way the awnings direct you back to the main focus.

  7. Vern, this is gorgeous! I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner, I love it! I really like the way the foreground figure anchors the whole piece. I will treasure this and cannot WAIT to see it in person. I just finally got to see your beautiful first work now that your book arrived. I just hope I manage something worthy of your book. Thanks again, Vern. And I'm so happy you're on Facebook now. :D

  8. Vern, put me on the list of composition admirers. But, not stopping there, the colors and contrast and figurative flair make this a real Winner(schnitzel?}

  9. Vern, I recognize your work! I was going to ask you if you were the one that painted the lady in the green suit, but, I went back and checked the blog. I love your style. This is a great scene that actually documents the sign of the time. Everyone sitting, hunched over engaging in txting!
