Santa Monican Homeless by Irit

Oil paint on paper varnished

I was taking this pic one Saturday during my morning walk.
On the wide front lawn at City Hall, dozens of homeless people gather in an orderly, patient line every Saturday morning for a modest meal, provided free by a church group and a small cadre of cheerful volunteers.
This is for you Adebanji, what a great idea, so close to our home/herats.

  1. Perfect Shot Irit- this is what it is all about. I love the figure in place with the abstract background! Great!

  2. A sight we see all too often. Because of Adebanji's request, I've been even more aware of our homeless population. Irit, I agree you have a nice bright background contrasted with the figure, great work.

  4. Very nice piece, Irit. The mindset of the homeless is often just to sleep and try to avoid the sadness and frustration of the reality around them. You have captured that attitude well.

  5. I can imagine that it's very moving and sobering to paint or draw these homeless people. You managed to convey him in an almost cheerful way, which gives the viewer the feeling that maybe there's hope and a change of luck around the corner. Nice work, Irit.

  6. Nicely done, Irit. There's a comforting feeling to this- maybe because he's surrounded by warm colors. James said it well..the pose really conveys a sense of resignation.
