Joe & Friends
oil on gessoed paper
Here is my contribution to Edward Burton's sketchbook for his "music" theme. I choose a favorite local jazz musician, Joe McQueen, who just celebrated his 91st birthday and is still performing. I would have like to have spent more time working on this, but it's deadline time!

This is really nice Michelle, I love the palette you chose, and I'm sure Edward will love it!

ReplyDeleteSo lovely. It has a great mood thats says Jazz. I can hear them play.
ReplyDeleteLove that background color too.
This is wonderful, Michelle, - thank you! Great color choices. Plus, I really enjoyed learning about him and listening to him play.
ReplyDeleteYes this is very nice! I especially like the handling of the piano as well as the way you conveyed the people. I like this theme and look forward to doing this one although it will be challenging!
ReplyDeleteExcellent, Michelle. the figures really sing (?) off of the violet background. Hope I have that kind of energy and talent when I'm 90. This is great.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, this is wonderful. I find figures so difficult to paint, and I really like the suggestion of the facial features, well done. Thank you for posting the clips, thoroughly enjoyed learning about Joe McQueen and hearing his beautiful music.
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect! I love everything about it! Beautifully done and the subject matter is so incredibly interesting! Thank you for sharing , what a joyful visit this was!
ReplyDeleteI have seen many small bands such as this perform live in clubs. You have certainly nailed the feeling.
ReplyDeleteI can hear the music right here right now.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece Michelle.
Great choice of subject Michelle, and a great job on the painting. I love the composition. Looks like Utah is rich in all the arts, and Mr. Joe McQueen is a very interesting and talented man.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I, too, can hear the music. This piece really comes to life and picks up the beat. Mahvelous once again, dear.
