Two for James from Edward Burton

oil
These are for James Parker whose moleskin subject matter is wildlife. The dog at the beach is from a photo that I've been wanting to paint and the night heron if from a photo I took when my wife and I were in the beautiful city of San Antonio, Texas last year to pick up our dog, Beau. Sure would love to return to San Antonio someday.

  1. Oh they are so perfect....... I love the double shadow with the dog and how you expressed his playfulness. The heron has that look in the eyes they sometimes have of " I'm checking you out ", Wonderful.

  4. Oh boy, Ed, ...I'm bowled over. TWO fabulous pieces from you!!!! Bowser at the beach is superb, and the night heron from San Antonio is just perfect. I do hope you get back over to this neck of the woods...San Antonio is neat, but there's so-o-o much in this area...from art to caverns to wineries to you name it. Ed, thanks so much for your incredible art. Can't wait to see it.

  5. Both are just wonderful! I'm wondering if you intentionally have an area of tighter focus as I think I see, in each one -- really nice. And the way that sand really does look wet, the foot not quite touching the ground so the shadow doesn't join it... such attention to detail and yet it doesn't look 'too tight' to me. Fantastic!

  7. Oh, two beauties!! Lucky James. I adore the dog at the beach. I swear nobody does wet sand and beach light like you. Fantastic. Heron's are so stately and beautiful. We have a few who hang out in the creek in the park near our house. Great paintings, Edward.

  8. Edward, these are wonderful and James must be thrilled to have them added to his book. I agree with you, San Antonio is a lovely spot...hot, but fun. These 2 paintings are absolutely beautiful. Of course, I have studied the dog and am just amazed at how beautifully you have painted him, what a wonderful tribute to the joy dogs bring their owners. As always, beautiful paintings!

  9. Ed, these are amazing. I especially love the dog playing at the water's edge. You can feel the movement and his excitement. Great job on both.
