Show Guide

This painting from a photo I took at the Museum Frieder Burda in Baden Baden, Germany, is for everyone's good friend Lizmeister Holm. I wanted to entitle it "Planning Their Next Voyage", but didn't think they looked the part...ha! Nothing like our sailor gal Liz. Not a full on portrait as requested, so I hope it passes muster.
oil on paper 8 1/2" x 6 1/2"

  1. I know photos can drab out colors -- so I can only imagine that if these colors look this rich in the photo they must be drop-dead in person. "These are a few of my favorite things," to borrow the song lyrics: the perfect turn of that capri-panted lower leg -- looks So three dimensional - both figures have solid forms, well-drawn or sensed - the leather looks so real, the wood reflection under the bench, that beautiful frame above/behind them and last but not least, the wonderful geometric composition. This has SO much going for it... excellent work, Vern!

  10. One blog can only hold just so many WOWs, so I may be pushing my luck with one more WOW, but here goes..WOW!. First glance, I thought I had somehow transferred over to a travel agency website and was viewing a photo of their waiting room. Everything works great in this splendid piece...the colors, composition, posturing. The floor is perfect. The mood and position of the women is perfect. You keep this up, and they'll be sticking ya onto the cover of Artists' Magazine.
