ADEBANJI ALADE- "Peter and Paul"

This is my entry for James Parker's world of wildlife. I know James is funny, so I decided to draw these funny looking twins for him. One of my discoveries from the London Zoo.

I don't know what they are called, so someone needs to help me out! All I know is that they looked funny and interesting, so I decided to take a play with mixed media, to animate their strange looks.

For this piece I have used, acrylic, wax crayons, ball point pen, pencil, ink, tom bow wash brush-pens and my beloved oil based pencil on an off white cardboard sheet.

This is now on its way to Dean. All apologies for sending this late, I got trapped in the busy basket and I'm not free yet....!

  1. LLamas! They are an adorable pair! I love their long lashes. The mixed media is very cool. Let me know when you find the escape hatch from that basket..I'm still looking. :-D

  3. Wow, Banji...am I tickled. this pair is just great, and I am so-o-o delighted and honored. Liz is right..they are llamas, or possibly alpacas (a smaller version). Natives of South America, Peru, notably, these critters serve a number of purposes..including for fabric (alpaca sweaters). Believe it or not, there are some golf courses in the U.S. that are training and using llamas for caddies. I think Peter is saying to Paul... "Hey, you remember that Dinero you borrowed last week? Be a Saint and pay it back". Thank you, Banji!!!!

  4. You really captured the character of these animals...their eyes are alert yet curious. I can't wait to see one of these mixed media pieces in person. Really wonderful Adebanji!

  5. Wow, I love seeing animals from your perspective! These have such wonderful Liza Minelli eyes and I especially love the leaning neck on the left one. I fee like I'm right there looking at them. Grrrreat work, Adebanji.

  6. Oh how beautiful they are. I want those eyes/eyelashes. In San Diego you can find them giving rides to children at the local fairs. They can be use as pack animals too. These twins are perfect and all the different tools you use add such richness to the drawings.
    Double our pleasure !

  7. Such thick fur, long eyelashes, and bucky teeth all rendered with the most sensitive of strokes. How beautiful their dark eyes are in contrast to their soft, silky fur...Peter & Paul are quite the pair, I can't wait to see them in person!

  9. OH! Must add on... we went to see Alice in Wonderland yesterday, and just now, looking at these eyes again I realized, they're not Liza Minneli's so much as Ann Hathaway! (the White Queen) -- do you see it anyone? haha
Love these llamas. No one would EVER suspect animals weren't already your specialty. Your research paid off!

  10. Can't wait to see it in person, Adebanji!
I imagine Peter is saying to Paul,"Where's Mary?"
