Dean-Guitar Reverie for Edward
Acrylic, Pitt Pen, and a skosh of colored pencil. Approx. 8 1/2 x 6 3/4 on paper.
This is my entry in Edward Burton's sketch book.
Edward's theme was "Music". I used to play guitar in country rock bands many beers...err..years ago.
My favorite guitar was a Fender Stratocaster...which I still own. This painting is an attempt to show the musician playing in a reverie. Practically seeing the notes drift through the air...Very much like you artists when you get caught up in the flow, and magical things happen from out of nowhere upon your canvas.
I don't know how successful my attempt was, but that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
Hope ya like it Edward!

Wonderful, intimate painting, Dean, and I can hear the music now! I like your mixed media, and unique take on Ed's theme. I think painting and music are so similar--compositions, rhythms, loud and soft notes, smooth transitions, harmonies. No surprise you're a musician, too! Great work.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great mood in this piece you can really sense a creative spirit at work. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteYou were very successful. I'm struck by the amazing 3D character you got with the neck and string area (you can tell I don't play) of the guitar. So believable I can almost hear the squeaky sounds of the fingers sliding with each chord change. Really nice one, Dean.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant and groovy!!!!! Love the Colour explosion of music in the air!
ReplyDeleteI love the colour combinations of vlue and orange. Thanks for sharing the photos and drop by me too, soon. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteDean, this painting is alive and so bold. Pure colour is your trademark, and gives this piece energy that you can hear. Is this the younger Deano?
ReplyDeleteHow am I just now seeing this? Dean, this is wonderful, love the strong light source and the reflective nature of this piece, both in the story you shared and the young musician in your painting.
ReplyDeleteThank you, everyone, for your kind and supportive comments. You sure know how to make a feller feel good.
ReplyDeleteVern...It's not made from a photo of me, so it's not the younger me 100%. But the pose, and mood are 100% me many moons ago.
This is wonderful, Dean! Sorry for my late response, I have been away on vacation. You really captured your goal - the music just radiated from him.
