Help

Here is my contribution to Adebanji Alade's book on homelessness. I saw this man beside Highway 71 on our way to Houston a few weeks ago. He looked like anyone I might see in Austin listening to live music at Threadgill's. I wondered what his story was; times are hard for a lot of people. 8 x 10 oil.

  2. Really arresting composition in this. He's outdoors, but still looks so trapped. Powerful work, Camille.

  3. Looks great, Camille! Great choice of subject and composition (Liz has a good point about looking like he's trapped!)

I really love your painting style as well...just the right amount to detail!

  6. I love your fluid way of painting. Details without details... how do you it ?
Interesting the words that are incorporated in this also, your name, please and maybe some words in the right upper corner which creates a triangle there too.
Yes I agree this definitively gives that feel that anyone could be in that picture.

  7. Thanks, everyone!
Dominique, I had more detail in the background and removed/blurred some of it. In the upper right corner what looks like more words is what was a clothesline and some mailboxes. I had them in and then sort of wiped them. I wanted a big white stripe area to point at the man's head for emphasis. I did want him to look trapped in a corner and I'm so happy Liz saw that. As I told a friend on Facebook, he did not look happy at all when he noticed I was taking his picture from my car two lanes over. I really felt guilty and I know it didn't help his mood to witness that. ugh! But it was for a good cause... :-/ Hopefully makes us all more aware and compassionate...
Again, thanks for your kind words, gang!
